The Columbia Works Internship Program connects Columbia County high school students with paid, hands-on summer internships in advanced manufacturing and related fields. Interns work alongside professionals in real-world environments while receiving structured support through the PCC OMIC Training Center.

  • Dates: July – August
  • Eligibility: Open to juniors, seniors, and recent graduates from Columbia County high schools
  • Pay: Yes! This is a paid internship
  • Industries: Machining, welding, mechatronics, engineering, and business operations
  • Transportation: Support provided for students as needed

Students: How to apply

Postcard for studentsThe Columbia Works Internship was developed to provide local youth, ages 16 and up, with exposure to advanced manufacturing career related learning opportunities in Columbia County, with the goals of community building, economic development, promoting local opportunities, and retaining local talent. Career related learning opportunities can include job shadows, career exploration, industry tours, and paid training at OMIC.

  • Who: Students 16+ years old attending or recently graduated from high schools in Columbia County, OR.
  • Where: The internship will take place at PCC OMIC Training Center 34001 NE Wagner Ct. Scappoose, OR as well as various industry partner sites.
  • When: July 7 – August 13. The program is held Tuesday-Thursday from 8:30am-2:30pm (sometimes later due to travel to industry partner locations).

Important dates
  • Deadline for applications: Friday, May 22
  • Applicants will be notified by: May 29
  • Accepted interns need to report to PCC OMIC Training Center on: Monday June 7 or Tuesday June 8 from 3-5pm
  • Internship begins: Tuesday, July 7
  • Internship days: Each week on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8:30am-2:30pm (some days will end later)
  • Internship ends: Thursday, August 13

Become a host employer

  • Apply to be a host employer.
  • Hire a part-time intern for 4–6 weeks during the summer.
  • Secure local talent and close the skill gap.
  • Give back to the community in a meaningful way.
  • Invitations to special events and recognition.
Sponsor an intern
  • Support the internship program through a financial gift.

Host a tour
  • Host a 1–2 hour tour of your operation.
  • Support the quality and variety of the internship program.
